Dragon Boats

A Dragon boat is approximately 40 feet (12 meters) in length and holds a team of 22 persons. Click on the link below to view a "Paddling Technique" video and see video clips from other Dragon Boat races. The team consists of 20 paddlers, a drummer and an experienced steersman (provided by Cleveland Dragon Boat Association). We recommend 4 alternate persons for a total team of 26 paddlers.

The race is 250 meters and can take between 2 to 4 minutes to complete a team's unity and endurance. The race begins at the Jacob's Pavilion (formerly Nautica Stage) and ends at Shooter's near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River. The objective is not only to win, but to establish a working relationship with team mates, unify in spirit and energy, and enjoy finishing the races as a TEAM!
