The 2018 dragon boat season in Cleveland will be underway soon. The CDBA, a non-profit, 501c3 organization, is the umbrella organization for 11 local teams and coordinates the annual festival and race-day. That will be held on Aug. 11, 2018.
CDBA teams practice on the Cuyahoga River. The CDBA owns three practice boats and has paddles and life jackets available for all teams.
Dragon boating is great exercise, offers wonderful camaraderie, and is open to anyone. We’ve had paddlers from age 13 to 80. We have corporate-sponsored teams, cancer-survivor teams, and community teams, which means any individual can join but will need to pay his or her fees (instead of having the company foot the bill).
We are a VERY affordable sport; it’s $75 for a season pass, or $5 per practice session. Festival fees vary, depending on the type of team.
If you’re interested in learning more about dragon boating, you can email us through this website or call us at 440-399-7373. Starting in June, we’ll be offering Learn to Paddle sessions every Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rivergate Park (in front of the Merwin’s Wharf restaurant) at 1785 Merwin Avenue in the Flats. We’ll be posting information soon about how to register.
While we prepare for the upcoming season, take a moment and view Festival 2017 a special web page telling the story of last years' event as teams competed for the coveted Cuyahoga Cup. You are also encouraged to download and read a special message written by our outgoing president Lori Ashyk (photo above taken by our good friend Jene Wilson).
